Whether you are looking to kickstart your career in the construction industry, or are already involved in construction and wish to advance and upskill, the Level 3 Surveying Technician Apprenticeship will enable you to develop the knowledge and skill foundations on which to build your future.

This course will provide you with the hands-on skills and technical knowledge to operate effectively, efficiently and safely as a professional Surveying Technician.

You will gain essential experience in collecting information from inspections or visits to buildings, land and construction sites; taking appropriate measurements of buildings, land or plans; meeting with other professionals, clients, and customers; and undertaking costings, measurements, valuations using data collected from research.

What experience and skills will you gain?

You will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as:

  • Data collection and analysis including principles of measurement, and the importance of accuracy, data management and confidentiality
  • Health and Safety and the requirements for compliance
  • Construction technology and the environmental performance of materials
  • Law including standard forms of building contracts or other property related contracts
  • Managing your own time and tasks, and communicating and negotiating effectively

You will also have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in areas that include:

  • Valuations and appraisals Building surveys
  • Tendering and procurement
  • Costing and cost planning of construction work
  • Campus

  • What do you need to apply?

    You will be expected to have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English, Maths and Science, and Maths at Grade 5 or above (or their equivalent).

  • How will you be assessed?

    GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 9 - 4 or A*- C, or a Level 2 qualification in construction or a built environment-related subject.

    If you don't have a minimum of Level 2 English and Maths when you start, you will need to have achieved this by the time your apprenticeship finishes.

    However, entry requirements will be determined by individual employers.

    You will demonstrate your progress through a combination of written and on-line examinations, practical assignments, development reviews with experienced professionals, work-based projects, and the maintenance of a portfolio of evidence.

    At the end of your apprenticeship, you will undergo an End Point Assessment (EPA). This is undertaken once you have developed the knowledge, skills and behaviours that your course requires.

    You will also be supported in achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Surveying; as a pre-requisite to your End Point Assessment.

    This course can lead to employment in a number of surveying roles, including Building Surveying Technician, Commercial Property Surveying Technician, Residential Property Surveying Technician, Land Surveying Technicians (including rural, minerals and waste management and planning and development), Valuation Surveying Technicians, Consultant (Professional) Quantity Surveying Technician, and Consultant (Professional) Project Management Technician.
