Is this course for you?

If you're aged 16-18 and speak English as a second language (ESOL), and want to improve your English skills, then this is the right course for you.

On this course you will improve your knowledge and skills in reading, writing, speaking, grammar and vocabulary, and listening. Our ESOL for Young People course is designed to help you to go on to further studies, or to find work.

There are five different levels of study, and you will have an initial assessment to make sure you start learning at the level that's right for you. Our ESOL courses also include functional skills maths and employability skills at an appropriate level. If you already have certificates in ESOL, please bring these to your assessment.

The levels we offer are:

  • Pre-Entry for Beginners
  • Entry 1
  • Entry 2
  • Entry 3
  • Level 1

You will also have the chance to complete additional Units with our brand new Vocational Tasters for E3 and L1 groups:

Construction

The course will be an additional component to ESOL and will provide an understanding of construction and maintenance careers. You will be able to gain some theory and practical skills. Well-equipped workshops will teach you how to carry out basic tasks and repairs in key areas. You will also learn about health, welfare, and safety in construction, ensuring you have the knowledge to work safely and professionally in whichever career path you choose. Good English and maths skills are essential, so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level. Once you complete your ESOL with constructions component, you will be better equipped to achieve on your vocational option.

Health & Social Care

ESOL with health & social care will give you an understanding and knowledge of what the industry requirements are. You will gain generic knowledge in social care, childcare and develop your communication, social and interpersonal skills. You will learn about topics such as principles, equality and inclusion in this field. Good English and maths skills are essential, so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level. Once you complete your ESOL with health and social care component, you will be better equipped to achieve on your vocational option.

Sports

ESOL with sports Do you want to work in sports and leisure industry? This course will help you develop your generic knowledge and understanding and the skills you need for your future career. You will understand some physical activities, look at fitness programmes and actively take part in gym activities. Good English and maths skills are essential, so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level. Once you complete your ESOL with sports component, you will be better equipped to achieve on your vocational option.

Media

ESOL with media course will help you develop your understanding of digital technologies in creative media. You will gain knowledge and skills which are sought by employers. Good English and maths skills are essential, so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level. Once you complete your ESOL with media component, you will be better equipped to achieve on your vocational option.

After successfully passing our ESOL for Young People course, you will have improved communication skills which are needed in every area of work, and gain qualifications in ESOL, maths and employability.

  • What do you need to apply?

    No formal qualifications required

    Additional Information: You will have an initial assessment in English grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

  • How will you be assessed?

    You will be assessed during class hours and will create a portfolio of work. You will also have examinations based on what you have learnt.

  • Where can this course take you?

    Once you have successfully completed your ESOL course, you may progress to a higher level of ESOL learning or into a vocational study programme.

    We advise that you need to be ESOL Level 1 to move onto a specific subject vocational qualification.
