At South Bank Colleges, we love celebrating the achievements of our alumni and the journeys that start here. One such story is that of Yvonne, who studied with us 27 years ago in Intercultural Therapeutic Counselling and has now carved an inspiring path at London South Bank University, focusing on innovation and wellbeing.

During her time at South Bank Colleges, Yvonne faced challenges that many students experience but often struggle to articulate. “I was diagnosed with dyslexia at the college, and it was such a relief to know there was something behind the difficulties I faced,” she recalls. The support she received helped her manage anxiety and frustration, and created a foundation for lifelong learning.
Yvonne’s experiences inspired her to create a programme called Happy Steps, designed to help others navigate personal and professional challenges through simple, achievable actions. She recently returned to South Bank Colleges to speak with our students, sharing her story of resilience and the tools she developed along the way. “As a mother, I had to take simple steps at a time,” Yvonne shared, emphasising that progress is built one manageable action at a time.
Her journey highlights the importance of support networks in education. At LSBU, she continues to thrive with the assistance offered to students with learning difficulties, proving that with the right guidance and resources, anxiety and challenges can be transformed into opportunities for growth.

Yvonne’s story is a reminder to all our current students that the path to success is rarely linear, but with perseverance, support, and innovative thinking, it is entirely possible. Her visit to South Bank Colleges not only inspired our students but reinforced our commitment to nurturing talent, supporting wellbeing, and empowering students to achieve their ambitions.
