Aishat Olanrewaju, a dedicated Level 3 Business student at Lambeth College, has been making the most of every opportunity – both in and out of the classroom.

When Aishat joined the Business course, she wasn’t just looking for qualifications. She was looking to grow – as a thinker, as a problem solver, and as a future economist. “I’ve always enjoyed solving problems, especially in maths,” she explains. “And business gives me a way to apply that thinking in the real world.”

Building Confidence and Global Skills

The course at Lambeth College combines academic knowledge with practical skills, giving students like Aishat the chance to learn about international business, inflation, and economic trends affecting industries worldwide. A highlight of the programme for Aishat was a unit on team building. “It helped us build self-esteem and understand what it means to work in a real organisation,” she says.

And then came the opportunity of a lifetime.

Work Experience in Cyprus

Through the college’s WEX programme (Work Experience Abroad), Aishat travelled to South Cyprus for her first-ever job placement – and her first trip outside the UK. She joined the team at Acacia Beach Village Spa, working in stock and back-office management. “I learned how a real organisation runs,” Aishat says. “I was helping manage supplies for the kitchen and cleaning teams – making sure everything was in place. It was amazing.”

It wasn’t just the work that made the experience memorable. It was the people.

“I made friends with students from all over,” she smiles. “Some I’d never met before the trip, but we quickly became a team – sharing rooms, planning our days, and even picking up basic Greek to speak with local customers.”

New Culture, New Confidence

The experience wasn’t without its challenges – especially the local cuisine! “I’m Nigerian, so I’m used to very different food,” Aishat laughs. “But I adjusted and embraced it. It was about enjoying the moment.”

And enjoy it she did – from sunny beaches and selfies to stepping confidently into a professional world. “This experience gave me confidence, practical skills, and memories I’ll never forget.”
