The Level 3 Creative Practice Art and Design students have been stepping beyond the classroom to explore how spaces influence artistic expression. As part of their diagnostic studies, they have been drawing both interior and exterior environments, experimenting with perspective, light, and atmosphere.
This project forms a key part of their first year, where students are encouraged to explore a wide range of creative approaches before specialising and tailoring their portfolios in the second year. The focus on observational drawing helps them develop technical skill, spatial awareness, and a deeper understanding of how design responds to its surroundings — essential foundations for future study in creative industries at higher education level.
From sketching quiet corners inside the college to capturing the energy of the city outdoors, each student brings a unique interpretation of space. Their drawings not only reflect the environments they see but also reveal their developing artistic identities and creative voices.
This hands-on exploration supports the pathway towards further study and creative careers, connecting learning directly to the visual world around them.
