Work is under way on the redevelopment of Lambeth College’s Clapham campus, marking an exciting next step in creating more space for students to learn and develop their skills.
South Bank Colleges has appointed construction company Neilcott to deliver a new four-storey extension. The project will provide additional education space for students and staff, supporting the college’s role as a welcoming place to study in the heart of the local community.
This phase of the redevelopment includes the demolition of the existing sports hall within the Henry Thornton Building, followed by construction of the extension. New cycle parking and other improvements across the site also form part of the works.
For students, choosing a college means finding somewhere they can build confidence, discover their strengths and prepare for their next step. Investment in the Clapham campus supports that ambition by developing the spaces where learning takes place.

The supplied architectural illustrations offer a first look at how the proposed extension could fit alongside the existing college buildings. Views from the courtyard and surrounding approaches show how the new and existing spaces could come together, while an aerial illustration helps explain the layout. These images represent the proposed design rather than completed work.
The redevelopment is taking place within an active college environment. Neilcott’s site team is working closely with South Bank Colleges and the wider project team to manage the works safely and efficiently alongside day-to-day college activity.
As part of South Bank Colleges and the wider LSBU Group, Lambeth College helps people develop the knowledge and skills to progress into work, further study and new opportunities. The Clapham redevelopment is a positive step towards supporting that work for future students.
Further updates will be shared as the project progresses.
