Students at London South Bank Technical College (LSBTC) are discovering what happens behind the scenes in the music industry through a six-week enrichment programme with independent music company Don’t Sleep.

From discovering new talent to supporting artists and producing music, the industry offers opportunities that reach far beyond the stage. The programme is helping students explore those possibilities, bringing professional insight into college life and connecting their interests with potential career paths.

Organised through the college’s Enrichment Team, the partnership brings students together with Lambeth-based Don’t Sleep and its founder, Dean Bryce. Drawing on his experience as a music executive and DJ, Dean is sharing his knowledge of how the business works and the different roles that help artists build their careers.

The programme introduces areas including artist management, music production and A&R, which involves discovering and developing musical talent. It gives students a chance to look beyond the finished track and understand the people, decisions and creative work behind it.

Dean Bryce, Founder of Don’t Sleep, explained:

“We believe in supporting not only the next generation of musicians and creatives, but also the future executives and industry professionals who will shape the music business.

“Through our partnership with London South Bank Technical College, we're sharing our knowledge and experience of the music industry, giving students practical insight into how the business operates, from A&R and artist management to music production and beyond.”

Students have approached the programme with enthusiasm and curiosity, contributing ideas and developing their understanding of the industry. Alongside gaining knowledge, they are building confidence and meeting other students who share their interests and ambitions.

That opportunity to connect is an important part of enrichment at LSBTC. Experiences beyond everyday lessons can help students discover new interests, ask questions about their futures and feel more confident about exploring unfamiliar opportunities.

For Don’t Sleep, the partnership is also about helping young people see where their enthusiasm for music could lead. Dean added:

“Our aim is to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence and understanding to explore opportunities within the music industry and take their next steps towards building a career in music.”

By bringing industry experience into the college, the programme is helping students make connections between their creativity, their studies and their ambitions for the future.
